Students will follow the AQA course leading to an examination at either Foundation or Higher level in the Summer of year 11. The course starts in year 9. An assessment of student’s progress will be made at the end of year 10 when they will attempt a mock paper.
The subject content is broken down into Algebra, Number, Shape and Space and Data Handling. The final exam is made up of three papers sat on different days. The first paper is a non-calculator paper whilst the second two require the use of a calculator. Students need to be familiar with using their own calculators and geometry sets, which need to be with them throughout their course of study as well as for the examination.
The department supports students with equipment by bulk buying items such as calculators and geometry sets so a whole package, including an examination approved pencil case, can be purchased at a reduced cost. Revision guides and practice books are also available at a cost.
